Best Buy is proud to be named to the list of Best Companies for Women to Advance 2020, a new list from Parity.org that recognizes companies that have made significant commitments to the advancement of women.
We were one of only 35 companies that made the list, including just 11 large companies (5,000 or more employees).
“We are determined to be an inclusive and diverse company, not just because it’s good business sense but because it’s our fundamental obligation as leaders and as human beings,” said Kamy Scarlett, Best Buy chief human resources officer. “This extends to all levels of the organization, from our stores to our board room, and comes to life through a range of work that includes recruiting and hiring, benefits, mentoring programs, as well as monthly senior leadership team meetings devoted entirely to these efforts. Most recently, it is has led to the creation of an employee-led diversity task force designed to answer the CEO’s public acknowledgement and the company’s internal one, that we must do better.”
Here are some ways Best Buy helps women identify and reach their career goals:
- Female leaders – Best Buy is walking the talk with significant representation of women in executive roles, including CEO Corie Barry and 60 percent of the board of directors.
- Benefits for families – Best Buy offers benefits that help families in meaningful ways, including recently added backup childcare, paid caregiver leave, and adoption, infertility and surrogacy support.
- Peer support – Our Women’s Employee Resource Group has more than 1,000 members and provides opportunities for networking, mentoring, professional development and leadership for female employees.
- Preparing the next generation – Looking ahead, we are working to inspire young women to pursue tech-reliant careers through all-girl Geek Squad Academy camps, with more than 100 Best Buy Teen Tech Centers around the country and our Career Pathways program.
In 2017, Best Buy signed Parity.org’s ParityPledge, committing to interview a least one qualified female candidate for every open position at the vice president level and above. Best Buy was recently named to Bloomberg’s Gender Equality Index, and we ranked No. 7 on the latest Forbes list of America’s Best Employers for Women.
