Hey Nintendo fans, this is the week you’ve been waiting for: The new Switch console will be available at more than 600 Best Buy stores starting at 12:01 a.m. local time this Friday, March 3.
If you haven’t pre-ordered Nintendo Switch, quantities will be limited. So be sure to head out to a local Best Buy store ahead of time to snag your spot in line.
The console will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Just like on Black Friday, our stores will have a ticketing process for customers waiting in line. We will only pass out as many tickets as we have consoles available, with a limit of one per customer. (We’re also giving away a free The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild poster with the purchase of any Nintendo Switch product at our Midnight Opening stores, while supplies last.)
If you pre-ordered and arrive before we open, you’ll have to wait in line to pick up your Switch. But rest easy knowing that it will be ready and waiting for you.
Stores that don’t open at midnight on Friday will sell the new console when they open at their usual time Friday morning, which is usually 10 a.m. but can be 9 a.m. at certain locations (check your local store’s website).
Multiple ways to play
Switch, Nintendo’s first console since 2012’s Wii U, can be played in multiple modes. You can dock it and play on your TV for a big-screen experience, or undock Switch for “handheld mode” and play on the go. Or, you can bump out its rear kickstand for “tabletop mode” to play with friends anywhere.
The left and right controllers — called Joy-Cons — can be used with the screen or detached from it. They’re motion sensitive, too, just like the Wii remote.
And don’t forget: Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked members save 20 percent on new games, even when pre-ordering.
